Beauty cons, for beauty junkies, are like toy cons for the kids and kids-at-heart. Who will say no to freebies or discounts or inspirational beauty talks with experts and famous celebrities?
Cosmo Beauty Block was already on their third year. The first one was held at SM Megamall last August 27, 2016, and this year’s Cosmo Beauty Block was held on the 25th, also of August, at the SMX Convention Center.
In Cosmopolitan‘s Facebook group, General Admission tickets were given away to members and their friends. But if anyone wanted to get freebies, vouchers, and a chance to have a meet and greet with Heart Evangelista-Escudero, they might wanna purchase the VIP ticket since it was worth P300 only. So, I thought, if I were to go, then it would be better if I could have stuff to bring home, right?
I initially bought 1 VIP ticket for me and 1 GA for Guil, but I later changed my mind and got another VIP ticket instead. I posted on my Facebook page if there was anyone who wanted my extra GA ticket, and it was Jermaine who first commented. I initially planned on tagging her along, but I didn’t think she would enjoy herself more that way. So we parted after handing the ticket and some of Guil’s vouchers.
Some of the vouchers offered discounts, while other vouchers entitled us to get a free soap and a sheet of 10 Gluta-caps from Snow, a cute canvas pouch from In2it, a Pose 360 shot with Pose and Print, a photo at the E! Photobooth, a free hand massage from Beauty and Butter, free nail color from ExtraOrdinail, VIP seats, access to flash sales, and the cherry on top, a meet & greet with the sweet and classy Heart Evangelista-Escudero.
Guil and I got there at around 12 noon. We went straight to the registration area where we got the Cosmo pouch. As we entered the venue, I saw most of the booths were already very busy, particularly Beauty and Butter and ExtraOrdinail. I had planned on having my nails painted, too, so I came with my nails still bare. However I had completely forgotten about it and I only remembered when we were in the van home.
The first booth on the right was Luna Organics‘. Prior to that, I was going to meet my friends Sab and Kate. Guil and I bumped into Sab and Maka as they were going out to have lunch. I was taking quick photos of some of the booths near the entrance, and I didn’t even notice it was Kate at the Luna Organics’ booth!
I had seen photos and reviews of their blushers in deo-stick packaging, and I wanted to see why it was so hyped so I swatched them on my hand. I didn’t get anything, though, since I’m not really one to hoard on blushers.
I enjoyed trying different specs at Nicole Syjuco‘s booth. I loved the ones with the geometric frames, as well as the funky 70’s/80’s hippie-looking ones.
I don’t really have a thing for sunglasses, but I found a super cute triangular purple pair that’s super affordable! They only cost P50! So why not, right?
Beauty Beat Philippines also had a booth there and they were giving away 1 BYS lippie to those who were willing to fulfill some tasks. All we needed to do was to take a selfie there, post the photo on IG with the given hashtags, follow their socials, and subscribe to their newsletter. After that, I filled out a form then finally got my free lipstick!
The Pose 360 experience was great, but I felt like an absolute dork not knowing how to pose so I just laughed, followed the camera, and laughed. My desperate attempt to conceal my big tummy made it stand out more, so yeah, that sucks.
Guil and I tried egg and ube tarts by Pocketbean Café and they were suuuuuuuuuper amazing! I also had their cappuccino (yummerz!) and Guil tried a shot of their cold brew.
After walking around, checking out the products in every booth, and swatching makeup, I joined Sab and Maka (okay, her name’s Malou Katrina, her IG handle is @iammaka, and I find the name ‘Maka’ cute so I’ll call her Maka. 😉 ) at the VIP seats to watch beauty talks from celebrities, professional photographers and makeup artists.
At 3 PM I tried my luck at the Revlon booth. They had a game where you only needed to finish a sentence, post a selfie on Instagram with the corresponding hashtags in the caption, then spin a digital wheel (roulette).
Who would’ve known?! I won a complete set of their Street Chic collection! YAY! 🤘
I excitedly went back to the seats. I believe it was Anne Clutz, Teena Arches, and Crisha Uy who were already on the stage. ‘Ika nga, eh, “share your blessings” so I gave Sab and Maka a lippie from the collection!
Then Guil and I went to the Ellana booth to purchase their Stay Fresh Setting Spray. I was so happy that I got it for a lower price because of a discount! Yay! I was also able to try some of their products there, like their Take It Easy Makeup Remover, Blur Primer, Makeup Brush Cleaners, Multi-purpose Loose Powders, and their Lip in Luxe.
And of course, the one we were waiting for – Heart! She was such a breath of fresh air! Despite her status in life, she remained nice, bubbly, and humble. She entertained all the questions and happily answered them. My friend Sab was one of the lucky ones to ask Heart a question. Check out her post here to watch the full video.
Heart was so game to talk that she said she could go on for hours, but they had to follow the schedule due to the meet and greet in the end.
Unfortunately, they were super strict when it came to the picture-taking portion. 😌People weren’t allowed to bring their own phones or cameras on stage, so all photos were taken only by Cosmo’s official photographer. Good thing Heart was so nice to have greeted and hugged each one of us.😍😭
I think that this beauty con is so much better than the first one I went to. Though there were more YouTubers during the first one, I got to enjoy better freebies and discounts at Cosmo Beauty Block! Here’s a photo of my #CosmoBeautyBlock haul!
Thanks Cosmo for organizing such a fun and fabulous event for all beauty junkies. Thanks, too, for Guil for always being so supportive and not maarte. Thanks to all the wonderful people who were also present. I had so much fun that I’m so geared up for the next Cosmo Beauty Block!
