I started with skin care only a couple of years ago. I tried different products and looked for ones that could perfectly address my skin’s needs. I was first introduced to BHAs by my beshy Christine, when she gave me some samplers of CosRx Blackhead Power Liquid. She said that BHAs could dissolve impurities without having to extract them and damage my pores further. When I was at Substance Laser & Skin Care, one of the products that they used was lactic acid. It is one of the most popular AHAs.
AHA (glycolic acids, lactic acids, etc.) and BHA (hydroxy/salicylic acids) are exfoliants; they lift dirt and eliminate dead skin cells. AHA works on the surface of the skin. It improves the appearance, takes care of the blemishes, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It helps delay ageing process giving the skin a youthful look. BHA works deeper into the skin and pores. It removes excess sebum, dissolves impurities such as blackheads and whiteheads, and also removes dead skin cells.
You can use either of them, but together, you’ll achieve better and faster improvements on your skin. There are toners that have both AHA and BHA, like CosRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Toner. I’ve also tried a carbonated AHA mask from a local brand called Nature Skin Secrets.
But Althea’s creative brains gave birth to something revolutionary — a milky, clay-ish wash-off mask that bubbles up just a few seconds of application! They call it ALTHEA MILK PEEL CREAM MASK.

It is housed in a sturdy white plastic bottle with a blue cap. The product is dispensed through a pump that I think is convenient and hygienic. I guess the only problem is when the residue of the product dries up and crusts around the spout of the pump. It’s not really a big deal, though, as the dried up product gets pushed out anyway, once the pump is pressed.

Because it is a “milk peel cream mask”, it does have that milky, creamy scent to it. The product looks really thick and moussy, but applies on the skin like a dream. It takes about 4-6 pumps of product to cover my whole face, including the jaw area.
Let me tell you a little bit more about the product.

“Give your skin a big gulp of hydration with the refreshing peeling powers of Althea’s Milk Peel Cream Mask! Containing both AHA and BHA extracts, this gentle but effective exfoliator transforms from a clay to a whipped cream lather, whisking away dead skin cells to prevent flakiness. It’s also formulated with casein protein from milk to revitalize and moisturize the skin. The result is radiantly smooth, healthy skin that’s bouncy to the touch! “

The three main ingredients are:
- AHA – removes dead skin cells on the surface of the skin
- BHA – removes impurities and declogs pores
- MILK – moisturizes and refreshes skin
Aside from that, it has Kaolin that clears and detoxifies the pores. Clean pores are highly essential if we want to get rid of our acne, blackheads, and whiteheads.
It also contains Casein Protein that provides hydration and keeps skin moisturized. Moreover, it makes skin more radiant and revitalized, so we can say goodbye to dull and boring complexion. After the AHA and BHA are done with their jobs, the skin will not feel too tight or dehydrated.
I’m also happy to see that one of the ingredients is Bentonite, which is really reliable when it comes to diminishing acne! Check the complete list of ingredients below!
Full ingredients list:
Water (Aqua), Kaolin, Glycerin, Disiloxane, Bentonite, Propanediol, Myristic Acid, Methyl Perfluoroisobutyl Ether, Stearicacid, Methyl Perfluorobutyl Ether, Potassium Hydroxide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Palmitic Acid , Ethylhexylglycerin, Milk Proteinextract, Disodium Edta, Gaultheria Procumbens (Wintergreen) Leaf Extract, Gluconolactone, Glycolic Acid, Titaniumdioxide (Ci 77891), Fragrance (Parfum), Coumarin*, Hexyl Cinnamal*, Citronellol*
How I Use It:
First, I wash my face with my favorite Althea Contour Cleanser. I just pat off the excess water and leave my face a bit damp. I do this because I find it a lot easier to apply the mask when my face is still a little wet, though it doesn’t get too difficult either if my face is dry.
After that, I pump 4-6 times of the product on my fingers then distribute it evenly all over my face and along my jaw line.
I let it sit on my face for 60 seconds or so. By this time, the mask has completely turned bubbly or foamy, as it generates bubbles just within seconds upon application.

I wash it off with water, preferrably warm. With my fingers, I massage it using circular motions. Finally, I pat it dry with a clean towel.
Then I proceed to my current skin care routine, which you can see in the video below.
So what is it like? You might ask.
The popping of bubbles feels weird, but it’s a good kind of weird (if that makes sense.) It doesn’t sting or itch, but you might think it does because of the popping or fizzing bubbles. Applying and rinsing are done without any difficulty, which is a huge plus for me, since I’m really just a lazy person. 😅
I LOVE how my skin feels right after washing the product off. It’s suuuuper smooth and soft. It feels bouncy and really, really pleasant to the touch! Looking closely at the mirror, I can tell that the skin is thoroughly cleansed, and even the pores look minimized because of how clear they look! It also makes my skin brighter!
I use it twice a week, but the claims say it can be used daily since the ingredients are mild and gentle. I think it’ll be fine if your skin isn’t sensitive. But for safety measures, use it once on your first week. If your skin does not show any irritations, use it twice on the following week. Try making it more frequent little by little, but if the skin does get irritated, go back to 1 or 2. As for me, I’ve set a schedule for it already! My Althea Milk Peel sessions are on Tuesdays and Saturdays. 😄
BUT REMEMBER!
Always use sunscreen during the day, most especially if you’ll be exposed to the sun. I recommend using Althea Petal Velvet Sunaway as it does not get sticky throughout the day. Learn more about my favorite sunscreen through this link.
