Is it mug-WORTH it? | AXIS-Y Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack

One of my favorite things to do, especially when I feel like I’ve had a long tough day, is relaxing with a good wash-off mask, reading a book or just taking a nap as I let the mask do its magic.

And one of my favorites is a mugwort wash-off mask. It was from a different brand, so when I saw that AXIS-Y also offered a mugwort mask, I was intrigued. I wanted to see if they could deliver the same amazing results.

But first, what is mugwort?

Mugwort is a plant which has been used for pain relief, intestinal problems, repelling insects, nerve calming, as well as in spirituality.

When used in skin care products, mugwort gives a calming effect to irritated skin. It relieves redness and inflammation, and stops acne from developing.

“AXIS-Y Mugwort Clarifying and Calming Wash Off Pack is made of 61% Mugwort alongside six natural extracts and our advanced skin technology. This wash off pack restores the skin by clearing clogged pores and calming inflammation and irritation. Adzuki Bean powder gently exfoliates dead skin cells to maintain clean, radiant skin.

Ingredients

Artemisia Princeps Extract (61%), Kaolin, Dipropylene Glycol, Bentonite, Betaine, Phaseolus Angularis Seed Powder, t2-hexanediol, Laminaria Japonica Extract, Eclipta Prostrata Leaf Extract, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Pteris Multifida Extract, Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Uralensis (Licorice) Root Extract, Vigna Radiata Seed Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Cryptomeria Japonica Leaf Extract, Nelumbo Nucifera Leaf Extract, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Methylpropanediol, Xanthan Gum, Glycerin, Chromium Oxide Greens, Charcoal Powder, Water, Beta-glucan, Polyquaternium-5t, Fructooligosaccharides, Allantoin, Hydrolized Hyaluronic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder, Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, Hydroxyacetophenone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil

As mentioned above, Mugwort (Artemisia Princeps) which is the main ingredient in this product has calming properties.

This wash-off pack contains ingredients that cleanse, purify, and detoxify the pores. These ingredients are Kaolin, Bentonite, Phaseolus Angularis Seed Powder (Adzuki Beans), Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract (Chameleon Plant). These also absorb excess sebum that can lead to acne.

It also consists of humectants, such as Laminaria Japonica (Kelp) Extract, Cryptomeria Japonica (Japanese Cedar) Leaf Extract. They attract and retain moisture in the skin.

Many of the ingredients promote anti-aging. With Eclipta Prostrata (False Daisy) Leaf Extract, Pteris Multifida (Spider Brake Extract, Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) Leaf Extract, Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, and Glycyrrhiza Uralensis (Licorice) Root Extract, the skin’s elasticity is improved and wrinkles are prevented.

Vigna Radiata, which is more commonly known as Mung beans, brighten the skin.

This also contains Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder or more commonly known as Green Tea, that has antioxidants, anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. It also fights acne and nourishes the skin.

What it claims

“Gently exfoliates and cleanses pores while soothing, healing, and protecting stressed and tired skin.”

What it looks like

The product is in a high quality green plastic tub with white lid, and comes with a spatula. It also has an inner lid which protects it from possible contamination and exposure to light and air that can possibly cause the breaking down of the product’s active ingredients.

Since it has kaolin and bentonite, AXIS-Y Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack has a clay-like consistency. It is easily applied on the skin and it spreads smoothly.

The Adzuki bean granules add texture that help with the exfoliation. Despite that, it isn’t abrasive and does not hurt my skin at all.

What I think of AXIS-Y Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack

As you can tell, mugwort is one of my most favorite ingredients in a skin care product. That alone is a reason why I love this product. Aside from that, it’s infused with other ingredients that promote anti-aging and hydration – and that is a huge plus. For me, it is a very interesting formulation because it does not just clear the pores from dirt and excess sebum, but also locks in moisture and improves the appearance of the skin.

True enough, even after letting the product dry and harden for 20-25 minutes, my skin does not feel too stretched or tight after rinse. However, it does feel like my skin is slightly being sucked up as the mask dries up, which I don’t mind at all because it makes me feel like it’s working. I also like its earthy, woody scent that reminds me of nature.

The mask can easily be washed off with water, preferably warm, while massaging it in circular motions.

I love how my skin looks clear and bright, and how it feels smooth after rinse. I can see and feel the difference it makes.

Not only that, its plant-based ingredients make it a perfect product for vegans or anyone who’s into vegan skin care.

A tub contains 100ml of the product which can go a long way since we don’t need to apply a lot. Also, we only have to use it at least once or twice a week, so 20 USD is already a reasonable price.
