Up to this day, there still are debates about whether or not people with oily skin types should use a moisturizer. Back then, I only used mattifying products and would also stay away from moisturizers because I, too, have awfully oily skin. It just frustrated me so much because my face did not stay clean and fresh all day. It wasn’t even funny anymore. I’d always look like a hot mess. It was only good for an hour or two, then it would get greasy the entire day.
I blamed my skin and wished I had “better genes”. lol I gave up. Lost hope. And with a heavy heart, I settled with the belief that my skin was hopeless.
Later on, I got into Korean skincare and I learned that using moisturizers actually lessens the production of oil. As someone with oily skin (actually, I have combination skin but the oily parts can get super oily), I swear by moisturizers. AXIS-Y Cera Heart My Type Duo Cream works really well for me. Because of its 2-in-1 feature, there’s a product for the oily parts and there’s one for the dry parts. You can check out my review on it here.
Now, how do moisturizers lessen oil production, you might ask. I’m not a skin expert, so I’ll just explain it briefly and in layman’s terms. With moisturizers, the oil glands are somehow tricked into believing that there’s already enough oil so they won’t need to produce more. If the skin is too dry or mattified, then the oil glands will think they’ll have to give out more.
That being said, using moisturizers kind of balances it out. It tames the oil glands while keeping our skin moisturized and healthy. Also, with the right moisturizer, acne can be lessened.
The only thing to take note of is what kind of moisturizer you should use if you have oily skin. That being said, use something that’s thin, light, and has a more watery consistency, like AXIS-Y Heartleaf My Type Calming Cream.
AXIS-Y Heartleaf My Type Calming Cream

“A lightweight gel-type calming cream made with Heartleaf and Centella Asiatica to soothe irritated, dry, and dehydrated skin. Its unique light formulation is ideal for layering and a light finishing touch.”
“Formulated with soothing ingredients that calm the skin and protect its natural barrier. This gentle cream will instantly leave the skin refreshed and hydrated.”
It is in a soft squeeze tube similar to that of AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen, only the Heartleaf one is bigger. They have a similar nozzle, which I fancy a lot because of how it looks and how it dispenses the product.

AXIS-Y Heartleaf My Type Calming Cream is a gel-type cream that has a really subtle blue tint because of Guaiazulene. It’s super subtle that it’s actually almost colorless. As with other AXIS-Y products, this super lightweight cream is also fragrance-free.
What’s in it
AXIS-Y is known for their plant-based ingredients which make their products safe for all skin types. Perfect for vegan, too!

Here’s the list of ingredients:
Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Butylene Glycol, Sorbitol, Isohexadecane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Betaine, Centella Asiatica Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Sorghum Bicolor Leaf/Stem Extract, Aspergillus Ferment, Chlorphenesin, Arginine, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Allantoin, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Guaiazulene
Having water as the first on the list only means that its major ingredient is water. Some notable ingredients are the following:
- Centella Asiatica that boosts skin’s natural healing process;
- Sage, which soothes irritation and regulates sebum production;
- Allantoin that stimulates cell proliferation and encourages new tissue growth;
- Licorice that delivers antioxidants to calm and protect the skin;
- Sorghum gives the skin a brightening effect, reduces appearance of wrinkles, supports development of new skin; and
- Aspergillus Ferment, which helps improve and maintain a healthy skin texture.
Of course, this wouldn’t have been named Heartleaf if it didn’t have any Heartleaf in it. Heartleaf is its core ingredient, which is rich in antioxidants, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It moisturizes and soothes the skin.

AXIS-Y is also proud of their ANTOXYL_S II Technology that safely extracts and ferments Sorghum into Antoxyl_S II using Aspergillus Fermentation, which helps protect the skin.
What I think about AXIS-Y Heartleaf My Type Calming Cream
I guess you can already tell that I love this product. It’s so lightweight, very easy to apply, and it doesn’t make my face feel sticky. It’s perfect for my oily and acne-prone skin as it regulates sebum production, as well as prevents acne and calms irritation.

I’m also really glad that it does not have any fragrance. My eyes, nose, and throat are all very grateful.
With all the good stuff it has and its effectiveness, I expect it to be quite expensive, but it’s not. This incredible moisturizer only costs US$20 on their website.
