Top 10 Local Makeup Products that Stood Out in 2018

If my observation’s correct, 2018 marks the time when local brands stepped up their makeup game in terms of formula, packaging, and variety. A bunch of new brands came out and most of them were by celebrities; while the already existing brands finally started keeping up with the current trend.

However, not every product released created a spark. Some were hot, others flopped. So for today’s post, I’m sharing with you my Top 10 local makeup products that stood out in 2018. I based my list on my personal experience and the people’s reception.

So here it goes…

COSMO Beauty Block 2018 was so LIT!💡🎇

Beauty cons, for beauty junkies, are like toy cons for the kids and kids-at-heart. Who will say no to freebies or discounts or inspirational beauty talks with experts and famous celebrities?

Cosmo Beauty Block was already on their third year. The first one was held at SM Megamall last August 27, 2016, and this year’s Cosmo Beauty Block was held on the 25th, also of August, at the SMX Convention Center.

In Cosmopolitan‘s Facebook group, General Admission tickets were given away to members and their friends. But if anyone wanted to get freebies, vouchers, and a chance to have a meet and greet with Heart Evangelista-Escudero, they might wanna purchase the VIP ticket since it was worth P300 only. So, I thought, if I were to go, then it would be better if I could have stuff to bring home, right? Continue reading “COSMO Beauty Block 2018 was so LIT!💡🎇”

BOTTOMS UP! Product Empties #1

I have been collecting empty boxes, jars, and bottles for months, because I’ve planned on posting my “product empties”. My mom was already eyeing on them and was itching to throw them away. So I just kept them all in a shoe box.

IMG_20180401_132100-01.jpeg

Actually not all. 😪 I got rid of some because I kept forgetting that I’d be posting my empties!

I have been meaning to post this, but see, it took me ages before I actually did! Thanks to Dee! I am finally doing it.

So yeah, I’m doing this in collaboration with Dee, and you can check out her blog here.

Dee and I collaborated last December 2017 on YouTube, and we both did a Holiday Glam makeup look.

This time we’re doing a collab on our respective blogs. I’m so excited to know what products she’s used up, and whether or not she’s going to get them again.

Mine consists of products that I used up from way, way back. Everything is listed in random order.

By the way, isn’t it satisfying to see ourselves actually finishing up items we spent our money on whether or not we like them? Continue reading “BOTTOMS UP! Product Empties #1”

RIKANOBELA: #TransformationTuesday

It was year 2013 when I finally gave in and tried my hands at doing makeup. I was so amazed by the power of makeup and I had really loved watching Michelle Phan’s videos. I had literally no idea which one to put on first. I constantly Googled which one had to be done first: eyebrows or eyeshadows? Eye makeup or face makeup? I even searched for “Which brush is for which?”

Back then, I would only buy a lipstick and pressed powder. I wouldn’t buy another lipstick unless I finished one. Kilay was not “life” haha! Continue reading “RIKANOBELA: #TransformationTuesday”

I WON IN ALTHEA’S SELFIE CONTEST!

A couple of months ago, Althea held the Petal Velvet Powder Selfie Contest where they’d be choosing 10 lucky winners of $50 worth of Althea shopping credits. Thanks to my girl Christine (@theglamourhour) for making me join. Had she not, I wouldn’t have had this rare opportunity!

The $50 shopping credits appeared on my Althea account on October 31st, as promised by one of their “pixies”. Prior to this, I had already picked all the items I wanted to get and added them all to cart. (The winners were announced beginning of October.) By the time I was ready to check out, some of the items had already been out of stock. So I had to go through their vast ocean of amazing Korean skin care and makeup products again.

Thanks again to my beshy Christine, I learned that I could use Althea’s Halloween promo code at that time to get 13% discount. So, yep! I got to pick more items just to use up all P2,600 ($50) credits.

Had it not been for the shopping credits and the promo code, I would’ve paid P3,194! I got a discount of P415.22 so I only had to pay P178.78.

The best part? I only had to wait 10 days! They’ve been consistent, by the way. This was the third time I purchased from them, and I have never been disappointed. They shipped out my parcel on the 1st of November, and it was delivered to my doorstep today, the 11th. No problems with ‘croicky’ Customs.

Let me now show you the products that I picked. Continue reading “I WON IN ALTHEA’S SELFIE CONTEST!”

Unboxing: The LAST SC Beauty Box (Spendless Cosmetics) in the Philippines?!

Last year in December, I got my first SC Beauty Box during an event at the YouTube Lounge at Greenbelt. It was Say Tioco’s meet and greet. Prior to that, I had already subscribed to a 1-year plan. But in January, the SC PH team announced that they had to stop operations (for reasons I will not disclose). I was sad, of course, because it was the only affordable subscription box I found to be worth spending on. Some products in the box were not available in the Philippines.

Then this year in June, I saw that their FB page is still active, as well as their website. They had a promo, at that time, where they’d give a free BYS Nude palette when you subscribe to a plan. So I went over to their page and subscribed to their Savers Box, which was the cheapest one, priced at only about $10. I placed my order and checked out via PayPal; I used my GCash Mastercard to activate recurring payments.

According to them, I would receive the free eyeshadow palette on my third box AND that my June box would arrive in July. Come July, but not my box. Another payment was deducted, so that was when I started getting worried. But still, I graciously waited. Continue reading “Unboxing: The LAST SC Beauty Box (Spendless Cosmetics) in the Philippines?!”
